Which former chief police officer famously endorsed a new car tyre "I am convinced that the ___ is a major contribution to road safety"? I thought that it was the Met's Sir Robert Mark back in the late '70's or early '80's selling the Goodyear Grand Prix S. However, a columnist in my local weekly newspaper is claiming that it was Greater Manchester's John Stalker. Has my local journo got his facts wrong again, or did Stalker indeed appear in a sequel to Sir Robert's famous advert?

It was Sir Robert Mark who made the adverts. I think they were for Goodyear tyres.
